cross reference advertising is the use of two or more different media platforms in order to promote a product or piece of media. an example of this is films may have posters released for the film and they may also release TV trailers

cross media advertising helps campaigns to reach a larger audiences, for example not everyone could be watching TV at the time that the advert comes on and the trailer may only last 30 seconds long which means people could easily miss it however a bill board gets a lot of attention by people driving by.

cross reference advertising could in fact be expensive by using two different forms of media so companies can even out their expenditure by using expensive forms like TV adverts and then using cheaper forms like posters

advertising will never fully reach the whole of their target segment however if it does well it will increase there range and may even reach customers outside of there target audience
